Thanksgiving

The Old Au Sable Fly Shop Fishing Report.
What a beautiful sight it is to wake to snow falling softly in the woods outside your window.  There’s peace in it.  And the thin blanket of white brightens the black and gray, leafless lots.  I can tell you it gets a three year old pressed against the glass of a front window.  My boy Jack, could hardly wait for the light to catch up with his eagerness to get outdoors.  He had his boots on before the coffee was done and was going outside whether we were going or not.  Do you remember that from when you were a kid?  The excitement of the first real snow?

He couldn’t wait to get outside and neither should any of us.  The beginning of a mild winter is in front of us and the snow will seep into the ground shortly, giving us another window of fine weather for early winter outdoors games.

Steelhead fishing is holding strong on rivers like the Pere Marquette.  And, locally, the streamer fishing for fine brown trout shows excellent promise over the coming days.  My advice is to get a belly full of turkey and Thanksgiving leftovers and push thigh deep into the woods and waters of Northern Michigan.  And to do it with the enthusiasm of a three year old.

It’s also time to start thinking about fly tying.  Not only is crafting your own feathered fishing lures a great way to fill your fly box, it’s a fine way to pass the winter.  The first fly tying event at the shop will be a Mason-Griffith T.U. sponsored class and demonstration with expert fly designer Dennis Potter on December 12th.

Then on every weekend beginning in January 9th, we’ll be hosting free tying classes and demonstrations.  Go to http://www.oldausable.com/community/events or find us on Facebook for details.

And don’t forget to swing by the Old Au Sable Fly Shop for our Black Friday, weekend long sales.  We’ve got some great deals on great gear.  It’s not just gear for fishermen; it’s gear for the great outdoors.  Foul weather anglers have developed some of the best gloves, hats, layering and raingear on the planet.  We’ve got piles on sale and it’s tough to put a price on being perfectly warm and dry.  But we have and it’s a steal.

Thanks for tuning in and thanks for the off-season sales support.  It’s what makes our clients more like friends than customers.

Hope to see you soon and Happy Thanksgiving,

Andy
