Cabin Fever Day:

A Winter Fly Fishing Event on the Au Sable and Manistee Rivers.

Wikipedia says:

Cabin fever is an idiomatic term for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a person or group is isolated and/or shut in a small space, with nothing to do, for an extended period (as in a simple country vacation cottage during a long rain or snow). Symptoms include restlessness, irritability, paranoia, irrational frustration with everyday objects, forgetfulness, laughter, excessive sleeping, distrust of anyone they are with, and an urge to go outside even in the rain, snow, dark or hail.

Sound familiar? It definitely stikes a cord with me. Hits me every year. This year we're going to do something about it before it gets Stephan King, "The Shining" bad.

The Old Au Sable in conjunction with nearly insane Michigan Fly Fishers (i.e.: you), are going to shrug off the cold and flip winter the bird with a winter fly fishing event.

Proposed therapy for cabin fever

One therapy for cabin fever may be as simple as getting out and interacting with nature. Research has proven that even brief interactions with nature can promote improved cognitive functioning and overall well-being.^{[3] (Wikipedia)}

If "research" says so then that's just what we gotta do. It's just about the same as a doctor's note in my book.

Now I'm not saying it's gonna be bright, and warm, and sunny. I'm not even saying we're going to catch a bunch of fish.

But we might. And, if nothing else, we're going to spend some time outside thigh deep in the river. We're going to fish. We're going to eat. And we're going to have a good time.

And we're gonna do it right with a contest and a proper itinerary.

*We'll meet at the shop Saturday the 16th around 11 a.m. for coffee, snacks, fly tying, B.S., and to figure out where folks are going. Some folks will fish all day and I'm sure others will be in and out of the shop.

*From there anglers are welcome to hit the stream at their convenience.

*Back to the shop about 7pm for dinner, beverages, and fish pics.

The Contest.

The contest will be a photo contest with multiple categories and great prizes so be sure to bring a camera. We'll lay out the rules Saturday morning (that's the part about distrust from the cabin fever definition).
