Arkansas

The White river is one of the best fisheries in the world. From nymphing rainbow trout to trophy hunting for large browns and the potential to catch the White River Grand Slam (cutthroat, brook, rainbow and brown trout); the White River has it all. For those that love streamer fishing in Michigan a trip to the White River is a must. January and February are the best months to target trophy fish on streamers as the river has high water flows and the fish begin to feed after the spawn. The populations of large trout in Arkansas are unbelievable. A study done in 2002 estimates that there are roughly 200 fish per mile over 5 pounds (essentially 24” fish and bigger).

Typically large streamers produce in high water, 8 inches is the norm in these conditions. Matched up with an 8 weight Scott rod and 300 grain SA Streamer Express sink tip you may experience the best streamer fishing of your life. As the water drops, down sizing of flies becomes important and standard 3-5 inch patterns and 6 weight Scott rods with 200 grain SA Streamer Express lines do the trick for these same trophy sized trout. After spending time down there the last five years we have found the best group of guides for you to fish with. In the winter months our Head Guide, Alex Lafkas, works in Arkansas also.

This has become a favorite destination for Alex because not only is it excellent fishing but it is a day’s drive away and very affordable. Packages can be customized for each trip but most people spend three days on the water and spend four nights at a house that he has set up for clients. The cost on this package is $1900 for two people ($950 each).
