Fly Tying Classes
Time to dust off that vice - the Old AuSable Fly Shop is teaching fly tying classes this winter. This is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of seasoned, professional fly tyers with a knack for teaching.
Skilled, patient teachers will host the beginner classes Saturday mornings from @ 10 am. Participants must choose one session initially but accommodations may be possible for shifting if space is available. Professional instructors will walk you through techniques step by step. By the end of the six week course students should be able to create fishable flies. Catch a fish next spring on a fly you crafted from fur and feathers.
- Take It to the Next Level
Intermediate classes will be offered Saturday mornings @ 12 am. This is the place to learn the techniques and short cuts that the pros use. Learn the cool stuff like handling deer hair or using a dubbing loop. A must for the tyer who wants to step it up a notch.
- Something Fun on a Saturday
It's a long winter and if you're like me you'll be stir crazy and looking for something fun to do. I've got an answer. A professional series will be offered on select Saturdays at 2 pm. The professional series is a 2 hour program that will feature pro tyers exhibiting their specialty flies and teaching you the techniques to create your own secret "guide flies".
Since multiple skill levels are offered on Saturdays, that day could be a great day for friends and families to come spend time learning a common craft.
Class sizes are limited. All materials are provided. Students will receive a 10% discount on any materials purchased for at home tying. Classes begin the week of January the 3rd.
The beginner and intermediate classes will run for six weeks for a cost of $75. Drop ins are welcome if space is available for a cost of $15 per session. The Professional series will operate on a per session payment at a cost of $15 per class. Individual sessions are also available on an appointment basis for $25 per hour. This is the perfect avenue to master that particular skill that has always been your bugaboo.
