Drakes for Memorial Day Weekend

Wednesday May 26, 2010

Lots happening around here all at once.  Last week we were fishing red quill spinners and looking for a Sulphur spinner dump, which produced the flopping trout below . . .

. . . and the underwater brookie pic.

But things change quick with 90 degree weather and we're on drakes now.  We had 'em on the shop window this morning.  They are on the length of the North Branch and should be system wide by the weekend.  There's been a lot going on this week and I have about ten stories to tell.  Like the infamous guy that tried to wade from Lovell's to Dam 4 (super nice guy with lots of tenacity . . . perhaps overzealous).  Or the fire (under control and safe).  A bunch more.  But we've been busy all day and I'm going fishing . . . it should be good tonight.  I've got a chance to fish with one of the guides and we should have some nice opportunities (can't believe he's open).  I'll work on the stories tomorrow.  Here's some pic's and some captions to get you by.

A few nights ago, while Joey was fishing, a small bear left muddy paw prints all over Joe's jeep.  Lesson learned . . . don't leave pizza in you car while you chase drakes.  No damage was done it the whole thing ended up being pretty cool.  Sometimes it's nice to be reminded that you really are in nature fishing up here.

We've been fishing a ton.

And folks are catching fish at dusk and after.  Although, I've spent some time with a few fella's that are getting up early and having a fine experience fishing the cool mornings.

It looks like a great weekend to fish and the way the hatches are moving, I wouldn't wait around for something better.  Get out there, expect sulphurs, march browns, etc . . . but stay and wait for drakes, they could be in most of the system by the end of the weekend.

Talk to you soon,

Andy
