September Biggie

The shop boys are really after it. Nate stayed out until dawn the other night despite the cold, fall weather and caught a pile of fish mousing. Including this mainstream monster. Just gotta fish the new moon no matter the weather. Nice determination.

Well, we wanted Fall and we got it—all at once. The first fall blast cooled the fishing down for a few days, but it also cooled down the water temps and got the late season BWO’s started. There’s two olives out there now, so be ready for 18’s and 22’s. These hatches are a bit unpredictable but watch for cloudy days for the best opportunity. We’ve been fishing the iso’s with good success and are finding fine brook trout angling with attractors as well. The streamer bite has picked up, so be sure to stock your box with a variety of colors and sizes. Brook trout are podded up and coloring up on both the North and the South Branches of the AuSable and the crowds are way down. If you have time, spend it on one of those rivers far from any access point. Something about being alone, on the stream, when the air is cool and full of change.
Next Wednesday is the opening of grouse season . . . few days I like more.
Saturday the 18th, is the Fly Fishing Film festival. We’re hoping to make it an annual event that’s good for everything fly fishing in Grayling, so your support is important. I hope you can make it. Check out the link at http://www.flyfishingfilmtour.com/ .
Thanks and see you soon,
Andy
