Manistee Brown Trout with Jerry Regan

2017 Schedule

All fly anglers and fly tyers are in for a special treat at the Old Au Sable Fly Shop on June 17th!

True legends Jerry Regan and Tim Neal will join together to for a fly tying presentation starting at 2 p.m. at the shop.

I’ve been working fly shops for the last seventeen years and I’m well versed at both sides of the vice with the art, history, and grind of commercial fly tying.  These two are the two best I’ve ever known.

The Au Sable River School of tying is historically as important as any, including that of the great Catskill tradition. Both Jerry & Tim are early innovators entrenched in the history of Au Sable fly tying and are, in fact, major pieces of our tradition. Tyers simply don’t get any better.

They produce flies that work and, more importantly, they crank them out with the consistency of machines but with the love of a creator. They do their work with the proudness that deserves their name. They want all of their flies to be perfect and they want them all to catch fish.

I’ve dealt with a lot of fly tyers that claim 1,000 dozen production flies a year.   Most don’t deliver a tenth of what they promise.  These boys do, and they’ve been doing it for decades.

They’re both in their seventies and fish more than most folks do in their twenties.

Tim and Jerry have been friends for many years and have plied these waters for many angling lifetimes. I’m honored to call them friends and I’m honored to have them together at our shop.

They embody skill, craftsmanship, dedication, tradition, and honor.  They’re not selling their patterns to Asia, they’re selling them to you.  Plus they’re pretty fun guys to talk to.

This event is iconic. We hope to see you there. Andy
